While at my MILs house on Thanksgiving I asked Anna to come closer by me so I could give her a hug (she was just beyond my arm's reach). She answered, "I
can't. I have
things to do." Her inflection and tone were a little 2 year old going on 13! Then she proceeded to walk downstairs to put away the toys she had in her arms because I had just told her it was time to get ready for bed before asking her to come closer. She gets points for cleaning up without being asked to, I guess!
Sam had a gem of his own last night. While driving back to my parents after visiting the last set of relatives on our 5-day Thanksgiving trip out-of-state, I was
complaining talking about the huge amount of houses that already had their lights and Christmas decorations out in full display. I'm a one-holiday-a-month kind of gal, and there's a week of November left! It just really feels like people have gotten caught up in the media pressure to start celebrating Christmas earlier and earlier every year. Anyway, Sam interrupted what I was saying to my husband to add, "Mama, I don't like your whining.
No whining Mama. No whining." Out of the mouths of babes. I was a little speechless, because well, I
was whining a little.
I'm going to have to watch myself a little better, I guess. They certainly are little sponges these days!
