Headed for Tubes

I gave in and took Sam to the walk-in clinic to have his ears checked again.  He has not stopped pulling at his ears since I took him to our pediatrician a little bit ago and she declared that he did not have an ear infection.  I decided that if I took him to the walk-in instead, they wouldn't know that I had already had him looked at a week and a half ago.  I thought it had to be more than just molars and it seemed to be bothering him more and more.

And guess what?  He has an ear infection.

I'm suspicious that he was starting to get it when I brought him in before, but that it was just too early to tell by looking at his ear.  When your baby has 4 ear infections in as many months, I think you get pretty good at immediately identifying that another one is bothering him.  I think I was too quick to have him looked at.

This makes ear infection #5 since the end of February, so we are headed to the ENT on Monday to start the process to get tubes.  I am hopefully we can get it all taken care of before cold season starts back up again in the fall, and all sorts of new bugs are brought into out home either through my germy kindergartners or via daycare.

Poor guy- he's been on antibiotics for ear infections 50% of the time for the last 5 months.  Not fun at all.

Aw, poor Sam! I am so thankful Noah hasn't had an ear infection yet... and yes, I am touching wood as I type this.

Poor little guy! Glad you took him back even though your doctor said there was no ear infection. That just goes to show that mama (usually) knows best! Keep us updated as you head to the ENT. I'm sure you're not looking forward to him having the actual procedure done, but I'm sure it'll be worth it; I've heard it makes such a difference for kiddos with chronic ear infections.

No fun! I loathe ear infections. I hate the whole "timing it right" thing. The last time Lauren had one, I waited too long and she already had a fever - and I felt guilty. But she hadn't been tugging at her ears, so I thought she was just teething. Such a tough call.

So, Addison is getting her molars this weekend and it's been ROUGH! Made me think of your post about your guys a while back.

I'm sorry, they are no fun at all, but at least should clear up the infections. Erik goes in tomorrow for his 2nd set of tubes. He has never had an infection, but has mild hearing loss because of fluid. Simple, quick, day surgery that they recover from in no time at all :)

I totally feel ya and I'm so sorry he's going through this! Lexi started getting ear infections in January and when the fluid/infections still were not clear by June that's when we did the tubes. The nice thing is once you get the tubes, if they have any future infections all you have to do is use drops instead of the oral antibiotics which makes me feel so much better that it's not ripping up her insides! I hope he gets relief very soon (and you too!)

Sorry to hear Sam has been so sick with ear infections. While getting tubes may be difficult, as Ellie said, I hope he finds relief soon!
