A Post for Sam

My little Sam man- he is such a unique child.  His enthusiasm for life bubbles over into everything he does.  I love his zest for "adventures" and how he makes up nonsense songs when the mood strikes him.  He likes trains and cars and other boyish things, but nothing quite steals his heart like animals do.  Any kind of animal- farm or forest, dinosaur or dog makes him happy, but there's a special place in his heart for for zoo animals like lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!).

His attention span is shorter than his sister's, but if the mood strikes him, he can sit for a 12 piece puzzle until he determinedly gets every piece in the right spot.  When he has a plan, he will give it his all and work hard to execute whatever is rumbling around in his head.  Even if it means lugging all the toys he can fit onto the top of the jumper to be "Santa's toys" on the "sleigh" he will work hard until his idea is finished.  Speaking of Santa, Sam has firmly attached to the title and tells us to call him Santa throughout the day... even today, January 8th, almost 2 weeks since Christmas.  We go along with it though, because it makes him happy and is a great tool to make him cooperative too!

I have so much fun listening to Sam talk-  it took me a bit to realize that when he wanted to eat "antelope" for lunch, he was asking for cantaloupe.  The other day he said he didn't want "pontoon" for lunch... so I finally figured out the tuna pasta salad was a no-go.  Camel used to be "tie-mo," and truth be told, I actually miss the days when he said tie-mo while we played, because it was kind of cute.  Lately, he's started telling very detailed make-believe stories, filled with lots of "because" interjected... but most of the time, they are so detailed and fanciful, that I can't even attempt on here to retell one of the long stories I've heard.  Both Sam and Anna are often uttering the phrase "my most favorite thing in the world" scattered throughout the day, as in, when we aren't having what they want for lunch, "it isn't my most favorite thing in the world."

Sam has a wild streak, and sometimes likes to be obstinate.  He will purposely push Anna, or pull our dog's tail just because he knows it isn't allowed- not out of anger.  He is definitely going to test his limits as get gets older, and keep us on our toes.  I see bits of older brother instigating already between Sam and Anna, he's figuring out how to push some of her buttons already.  I'm sure we will have many more years of that in the future as well!

But boy oh boy, does this child love his grandmas.  To him they hung the moon just for him.  Even though he doesn't see any of them very often, his very favorite place to go above even the pet store is grandma's house.   I imagine when Grandma Roxie takes him to the zoo in March, he will be in true bliss- his two "most favorite things in the whole world" at the same time.
