I won't go all out since it will be a pretty small affair because our family all lives out of state. I considered traveling to them for a party, but decided against that. I am guessing that just our 3 sets of grandparents will come and maybe my sisters-in-law, but only if they don't have to work. I want to do some fun stuff regardless of the small number of guests because, well, it will be fun for me. I am thinking about doing a sort-of Dr. Seuss Thing 1 and Thing 2 theme and here's my reasoning: This is probably the only year I have sole input on the theme. I have plenty of years ahead of me of pink and blue; princesses, characters, bugs and monkeys. I like the red and teal blue combo because it will be bright in an otherwise dull March world. And, Sam and Anna's birthday is only a week after Dr. Seuss' birthday and the week before that at my job we go all out celebrating reading and Dr. Seuss books. Time-wise, it is very fitting.
I did invitations already, with a photo deal from SeeHere.com for 24 free cards and paid only shipping of $2.49. They don't exactly match and I didn't have fabulous pictures, but they are teal and bright and that's good enough for $2.49., especially when I could just forgo the invites all together.

I want to get these shirts for Sam and Anna, and color-wise use red and light teal. I'll use the same colors for plates, cakes etc.

And I might splurge and get one of these banners. But that's probably it for bought decorations. I'll bring my stuffed Thing 1 and Thing 2 and Cat in the Hat from school for added decorations too. (cost=free).
I need to put thought into the bigger cake and their personal cakes yet.
Since their actual birthday is on a Wednesday, I decided I'd start a tradition of taking their day off of work (at least until they are school-age) and spend the day with them. I know I would have a hard time sending them to day care, and I know I will be spending a large chunk of the day reminiscing about their birth and the past year of our lives so this way I can do so freely. My husband is also taking the day off. Not sure what we'll do yet (although I'm thinking about going to the nearby cupcake shop and have that small treat on their actual birthday, maybe a nice long walk if the weather's nice, etc.). I can't wait to have our little midweek celebration as just our family of 4.

Sweet... You are almost all done with your planning! And yes, I can't believe we are already doing this! Sigh!
Love the Dr. Seuss theme! And no matter the party's size, it will be a special event. I also love your idea to take the day off of work to spend the day with them (before they are school-age ;) ). I can't wait to read what you and your hubby and kiddos do on their actual birthday!
And it sounds like the day will be full of mixed emotions--reminiscing about the pregnancy, their birth and all that has happened in this year of the twins' lives. Embrace it all and be in the moment.
I know it's hard to think about the little ones getting bigger. But as they get bigger, at least in the case of my little one, I have increasingly more fun with her. She can interact, be silly, be expressive, etc. I can't wait to plan the birthday party.
The family day sounds awesome. You are going to have a great time!
I was at Target last night scoping out their birthday stuff....sigh. I can't believe it.
We aren't having a big party here either, but more of a celebration that we MADE IT through the first year. Hallelujah!
I cant believe they will be one soon! I love the Dr. Seuss theme, its perfect! And so are there faces on that invite.
Gah! Already? But how fun...I find myself daydreaming about Jackson's first birthday party (6 months away...) since we'll be on a family vacation the week before, thus planning will have to be far in advance. I can't wait, yet I wish time would stop...
What an awesome idea! I absolutely love it! And I love the color combination. Definitely splurge for the banner, it is awesome! This maybe too ambitious but maybe you could have a dr. seuss hat as the main cake. I know, probably way too difficult, but it would be cute. You could mimic patterns from that banner for their personal cakes (stripes, polka dots etc.). But this is all coming from someone who put WAY too much thought and effort into her 1 year old's party. It seriously made me crazy and we only had family at it! Anyway, looks awesome and I can't wait to see pictures! Are you going to put red wigs on them for at least one pic? hehe, that would be hilarious.
How special, to spend the day with mom and dad! Great idea!
Love the invites and the shirt! Too cute!
And um, WOW! I can't believe it's already been a year. I remember being so excited to read about their birth, and your class being at the hospital on the same day and all... It definitely doesn't seem like a year ago!
I guess I didn't realize that finger foods are going to be really messy until reading this post, but I guess that makes sense. Honestly, I think the purees and rice cereal are pretty messy. Lauren grabbed the bowl tonight. She was determined to get it too! And Addison is all about grabbing the spoon out of your hand and shoving it in her mouth. It definitely has entertainment value though!
You seem to be doing so well!
