Work Today... Who Knows About Next Time?

After finally hearing back from my OB's nurse yesterday afternoon at almost 5 pm, I was told it would be ok to "try" work today and see how it goes. So today I braved the 5 and 6 year old hyped up on Christmas, Santa, and the impending snow storm and I am happy to say I survived without any problems. (My computer contracted a virus so I was unable to use it; a major inconvenience when you are trying to get caught up after being gone unexpectedly for two days--- but personally and physically I had no problems)

My kinder co-workers helped me shuttle my class to and from lunch, special classes like art, and the bus, as well as got my mail for me throughout the day so I didn't have to walk all the way down to the office. One co-worker even hauled my holiday gift loot to my car for me. I hope their generosity continues because it really saved me a lot of steps and energy today.

I plan on going in next week while we are off of school and finishing getting everything set for the remainder of the school year (while taking it easy, of course). My other goals for the week off: packing the hospital bag (I learned the hard way this week not to let your husband pick out clothes when in a pinch- he seriously grabbed one of his Tshirts with a skull and a small hole in the front for me to wear), and get as much done in the babies' room as possible (getting it completely done might be too lofty of a goal at this point, but I'm going to try). I think a big chunk of stress about possible bedrest will be alleviated if those things get taken care of.

My next OB appointment and glucose test is on December 30th... I hope after chatting with my OB I can get a better picture of what my January will be like. In the meantime, I am unsure of how to handle the NICU nurse that said she'd be calling every few days to see how I'm doing "on bedrest." I am thankful that she is so caring to go out of her way to help so I don't want to cause any bad feelings. I'd love some advice about what I should say to her when she calls.

Stay tuned for the finished quilts as well! My friend is just finishing up the edges and I am SO EXCITED to see how they turned out and share them with all of you!

Katie,
I'm so glad to hear that you and the babies are doing fine! I am also glad to know that you are safely at home before the storm hits.
The next time the nurse calls, let her know that you truly do appreciate her concern and that you will be seeing your OB next week.
Have a great Christmas!
Kelly

Hi! Just found your blog via Lost and Found!

I hope you're enjoying your time off. I know I am!

I'm 12 weeks with twins, and I also teach 2nd grade. :) I don't think most people realizes how much teachers are on their feet. I love that your team has been so supportive! I had a rough time with morning sickness, and my team has covered for me a few times. It's so nice.

Maybe you could tell the NICU nurse that you are in regular contact with your OB, have regular appointments, and that getting checked up on actually causes you more stress -- maybe that last bit would sink in more than the others. Hope you work it out! Glad you're doing well!

I know how you feel...its so hard to think about all that needs to be done at home and at work before the babies come! Especially when we don't know if bedrest may be in the future for us...But everything will be fine no matter what you get done so take it easy!!!

I'm with JB and Kelly. Something to the tune of "Thanks for your thoughts and caring - I'm being followed closely and reducing my activity, and that seems to be working for now. I'm sure you'll run into us at the hospital if anything gets going again." Maybe she'd get the point?
Hopefully she'll forget to call, or will call once and then not pester you again. I don't even know how she'd get your number unless she were inappropriately accessing your medical records at the hospital, since you don't have a child under her care.
If I had been in her shoes, I'd have told you how to get in touch with me if you had any concerns or needed to ask any questions, and left the ball in your court.
Enjoy your little break from the hyper kiddies!

I'm so relieved to hear you're doing much better and the contractions have stopped.

Please continue taking it easy. I know it's tough but so what if you're a bit behind on email, your health and the babies are way more important.

Wishing you happy and healthy holidays.

P.S. You're lucky Jake packed a t shirt. When my friend went in to deliver her little girl, her husband forgot to pack clothes for her altogether! But I agree, just pack your own stuff, it will give you peace of mind :-)
