One year ago today
Almost one year oldDear Anna,
My sweet spunky daughter, you were the addition that made our family complete. Just when I thought my heart couldn't get any bigger, thanks to you, it did. I have never felt more blessed than I did the moment I saw your daddy holding you close so I could see you. My daughter. You were so tiny those early days and that compounded with the news of your heart murmurs, brought out the fiercest mama bear in me. I have never felt a more intense desire to love and care for anything in my life.
I see so much of me in you already. Your spirit and determination, your independent streak and careful nature. But your sense of humor is all your dad! It took you a while to sit for us, but you were just waiting to show us that you could do it perfectly. I have a feeling that walking will be the same way with you. You love to methodically take things and put them somewhere else; you love to put things in containers very purposely and organized. Your personality and your brother's are so different, and I love that about you. Just like your daddy and I, your personalities complement each other well. Sam will teach you to take risks and go with the flow, and you will have to teach him to think before he acts and keep him out of trouble.
From the beginning, you've always been more interested in living things like people and animals over toys. You are my dancing partner and my singing companion. Just when I think nothing can be more adorable than your open-mouth "Mwah!" kisses reserved for only me, you up the cuteness factor with acting out The Isty Bitsy Spider. I have been so proud of your communication skills. At 11 months old, you could say, "Bella, Mama, Dada, Hi, Bye-bye, Water, and All done." You and Sam communicate like little whales with clicks that seem to make perfect sense to both of you.
When you and Sam play together my heart feels like it could burst. You really do love your brother. I love watching you chase each other, wrestle each other, kiss each other, and make each other laugh. It makes me so happy to know that you will go through life with him always nearby.
You are a mostly easygoing baby, but are quick to voice your displeasure if something isn't the way you want. If you don't want something to happen, you sure let us know it! You are our early bird- always up and ready to go when it's morning with a smile on your face. When you get older, we will have to teach you how to entertain yourself so the rest of us late-risers can sleep in a little. :)
My spunky girl- you do funny things just because you are you, not to make us laugh or be silly for an audience. If the spirit moves you, you will break out your downward dog yoga pose out of happiness, or grace us with your fishy face. You share your happiness by smiling with your whole body.

Anna sounds so expressive, which must be so sweet at such a young age. Happy Birthday to precious Annabel Marie! What joy you've had added to your life in just a matter of a year.
