We'll see how that goes.
What I haven't decided is the theme for Sam and Anna's second birthday party. I've had in the back of my mind basing it off of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle for a long time. I have so many cute ideas stored on pinterest:

However Sam and Anna have really turned into Elmo nuts lately. I don't entirely get where it comes from, since they don't watch Sesame Street and they just listen to Elmo's song at daycare from a CD (besides the characters being on their diapers). Our daycare provider gave them plush Cookie Monsters, Elmo, Big Bird and Ernie for Christmas, and they have been some of the most popular toys in the last few weeks. Regardless of where it comes from, they love Elmo.
I've never been much of a characters-for-kids kind of person. No judging for anyone that is- for me it's like the color pink. Some people like it, some people hate the color pink. If you don't like the color pink, it's not like you look down on people that do- it just isn't something you aren't fond of personally. Sam and Anna don't have anything Elmo based except for the gifts they got from daycare. I would kind of like to keep it that way.
BUT, I can kind of see why people buy into character stuff now. The way their faces (Sam especially) light up when I play Elmo's song for them on you tube is priceless. Their joy becomes my joy. I'm growing to love that furry red monster too, because my kids do. As far as characters go, too- he's not that bad. He doesn't whine like I've read Calliou does, or act bossy like Ruby from Ruby and Max does, or promote the helpless woman rescued by a man theme from Disney.
And so, I'm now contemplating an Elmo theme for the 2nd birthday party. After all, it is their day, and to see their faces light up with that much joy from the Elmo
Plus, I've pinned all this good stuff from pinterest so far.

This is gonna be a tough decision to make!

I'm not a big fan of characters for kids, either. But I LOVE Elmo and Sesame Street, and I love Super Why. Those are pretty much the only shows I will let Noah watch, and he loves them too.
If your kids' faces light up that much from Elmo, I'd go with the Elmo party. After all, the party is for them. BUT, the Very Hungry Caterpillar stuff you have pinned is adorable.
I love thinking about party themes! Like you, we have steered away from characters, but there are a couple that I know my girls would love...Curious George and Dr. Seuss / The Cat in the Hat (all from publishing).
We just celebrated our girls' third birthday with a ladybug theme. The girls are all about ladybugs, too...so it was a hit.
Have fun planning! :) :)
We did an Elmo theme for my daughter's 2nd birthday in November. It was SO much fun, and her eyes just lit up when she saw everything. Can't wait to see what you end up doing!
I hear ya. We watch some Sesame Play With Me (which has Elmo in it, so they call it "Elmo!") when we first wake up for a bit in the morning when we drink our milk. But other than that, they haven't really ever see him. Except on their diapers like you said. Yet they LOVE him. Oh, I bought some bubble bath for them for the first time a few weeks back, and the Sesame Street Elmo brand was the only non-scented brand, so I bought it. They now say "Elmo Bubble!" when it's bath time. They just love Elmo!
I'm thinking of doing a Sesame Street theme for Abbey and Luke's 2nd birthday as well. We should follow each other on Pintrest!!
My boys love elmo too and they've never watched sesame street before. That little muppet has them charmed with his music and books and I think we'll be doing an elmo birthday in march.
My sister in law bought us all kinds of princess stuff fir Christmas, which was sweet but... Sigh.
I like Elmo because A. I grew up with it B. It's PBS, which I love and C. It's pretty educational. Plus my girls love it We got them an Abby Cadabby doll for Christmas that they love.
The Hungry Caterpillar stuff on Pinterest is sooo cute! Gotta love Eric Carle!
I think either would be adorable! And they wouldnt really know what they were missing out on if you did Eric Carle. I cant wait to hear what you decide!
All of the ideas you posted were so super cute. Tough decision! But, my choice would be Elmo. If the kids are in love wih him, what fun it would be to see their faces light up with joy! While they would still love the Hungry Caterpiller party, I don't think you would get the same reaction. Good luck making your decision!
So cute! We did an Elmo party for our twin boys for their second birthday and did those cupcakes you have here. It was a big hit! Love your blog, I'm your newest follower!
